The Gulf Shores Sportsplex has 12 pickleball courts.

Gulf Shores, Alabama (WKRGMore) – The 12-court pickleball facility at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex officially opened Thursday.

Tim Wallace has lived in Snowbird’s Gulf Shores for four years and is thrilled to have access to Baldwin County’s pickleball courts.

“I like it,” said Wallace. “There aren’t many around here to hang out with, but now I have them.”

Gulf Shores resident Laura Fillmore has been an avid pickleball player for almost five years and is excited to get out and play the game she loves.

“Hey, I love you,” said Fillmore. “It’s better than playing in the gym.”

The brand new courts are open to the public 24/7 and come with lights for those who want to play at night.

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country and local leaders are proud to have the sport landed in their city.

Gulf Shores City Authority Grant Brown said this will bring more sports tourism to Gulf Shores.

“I think there are a lot of travelers out there already playing pickleball who are looking for a good place to vacation,” Brown said. we know.”

Billy Reeves has been at the Gulf Shores for over 10 years and has played pickleball for 11 years. He encourages everyone to step out on a brand new court.

“Everyone has levels,” Reeves said. “He could be one of the worst players in a certain group, but he could be one of the best players in the next group. It gives you an opportunity to compete.”

Players must bring their own equipment.
