Saraland City Council Provides Update on Multi-Million Dollar Sports Complex

Saraland, Alabama (WKRGMore) — The Saraland City Council shall hold a specially convened meeting, Multi-million dollar sports complexConstruction on the complex could begin in June of this year.

The $54 million project will provide indoor and outdoor facilities for guests. City Councilman Natalie Moet said the project has come a long way since it was last introduced in June.

“This is an opportunity to show everyone what we’ve been working on and what we’re working towards,” said Moye. “And to really build that consensus and allow it to move on and say that this is all on paper, let’s move forward to implement this.”

A newly rendered 3D model shows an indoor basketball court and track. Saraland City Council Chairman Joe MacDonald said citizens will enjoy many amenities.

“We have six tennis courts,” McDonald said. “Beach he has a volleyball court too, and in the gym he has four basketball courts, tournaments and he can have eight volleyball courts, and those tournaments too.”

Sportplex is currently preparing to enter Stage 4 of its 7 phases. McDonald said the fourth phase will deal with bidding and contractual agreements.

“The next step is getting all the contract papers together,” explains McDonald. “We need to put it up for bid, put it up for bid, and start moving in April or May.”

The Sportsplex is set to be located off Celeste Road. Once the tender is complete, construction will begin in June, and residents who have lived in Saraland all their lives, like Johnny Haynes, are excited about what’s to come.

“I think it’s great for the whole Saraland community,” Haynes said. “And the surrounding counties and cities.

The architects expect construction of the entire sportsplex to be completed in spring 2025.
