Samsung beats Intel and regains global chip sales lead with 19% growth: IC Insight

As the global chip crisis continues, Samsung Electronics has defeated US chip maker Intel Corp and regained its top position as a semiconductor supplier based on revenue, according to a report by research firm IC Insights.

Samsung saw total semiconductor sales increase 19% to $ 20.3 billion in the second quarter of 2021, driven by soaring demand for DRAM and flash memory and rising prices.

Samsung was previously ranked as the top semiconductor supplier throughout most of 2017 and 2018, when the memory market experienced its last cyclical turnaround. And the company finally enjoyed more than $ 20 billion in quarterly sales in 2018 at the peak of its last memory turnaround.

The report also predicts that demand for memory ICs will continue this quarter, with Samsung’s semiconductor sales expected to grow another 10% to $ 22.3 billion in the third quarter, further expanding its lead to Intel. I am.

Meanwhile, Intel, TSMC, and Qualcomm sales grew only 3% in the second quarter of 2009, while Broadcom sales grew 1%.
