(cron) — Golfing great Phil Mickelson said fans brought energy to LIV Golf’s first event of 2023 in the United States when they stopped by Tucson.

Mickelson caught up with Nexstar’s Jason Dumas at the LIV Golf Tournament on March 19, heading into the final round of the event. He said the combination of location and fan excitement created great conditions for golfers.

“It’s been fun playing here at Tuscon for many years because it has such a special place in my heart. I won my first championship as an amateur in 1991,” recalls Mickelson.

The second LIV golf event of the season was held at the Gallery north of Tucson.

Lefty’s four-man team finally fell short in team competition after a disappointing final round, losing to the $3 million-winning Fireball team. Danny Lee won the playoffs and claimed an individual victory.

Charles Howell III opens his second LIV season with a win in Mayakoba, Mexico.
