More Oath Keepers Convicted of Seditional Conspiracy on Jan. 6 – WKRG News 5

Jury wins Justice Department yet again in prosecution of far-right Oathkeepers militia, guilty of rarely used sedition conspiracy against all four members tried in group’s second indictment made a verdict.
Ed Vallejo, Roberto Minuta, Joseph Hackett, and David Moerschel were each convicted of their roles in the January 6 attacks on the Capitol. In this attack, members of a militia group used a “stuck” formation to break into a building.
The verdict comes just two months after another trial against five other members of the group, whose jury delivered a seditious conspiracy verdict against the group’s leader, Stewart Rose.
Sedition conspiracies – used to prosecute those plotting to overthrow the government – carry prison sentences of up to 20 years and have been underutilized since the terrorist attacks of the 1990s.
However, the trial marked a dramatic change in the Department of Justice’s record in such cases.
The verdict comes after Kelly Meggs, leader of the Rhodes and Florida chapters, was found guilty of seditious conspiracy in November.
Three other members who were put on trial along with the two men were acquitted of sedition conspiracy charges, but were similarly convicted of other charges carrying up to 20 years in prison.
Given the complexities of bringing such a large group to trial, the second trial, which took place after the nine defendants were split, was an even greater success for the Justice Department.
Each of the four was also convicted of obstruction of justice.
