Man sentenced to 15 years for killing man with propane tank

Escambia County, Florida (WKRGMore) — A man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter in March, the Florida Attorney’s Office announced.

Timothy Johnson was found guilty of manslaughter in the July 2021 death of a man. According to the announcement, on the night of July 17th and 18th, 2021, Johnson got into an altercation with the victim. Johnson allegedly hit his victim in the head with a steel propane tank during the fight.

The statement said Mr Johnson had left the scene and the victim was found hours later “crawling around the scene of the altercation, unable to speak or stand”. The victim was taken to hospital and died of his injuries on July 28. An autopsy determined the victim’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.

During sentencing, the state government said Mr Johnson’s choice to leave the victim at the scene was “inhumane”. The maximum sentence for manslaughter is 15 years.
