Man attacked by puma while sitting in hot tub: Colorado officials

Chaffee County, Colorado (KXRM) — A man in Colorado was reportedly attacked by a mountain lion while he was relaxing in a hot tub over the weekend. wildlife officer.

The man said he was sitting with his wife in the basement hot tub of their rental property in Nethrop, about 100 miles (100 miles) west of Colorado Springs, when the mountain lion attacked Saturday night.

“I felt something grab my head,” the man said as he sat in the hot tub with his wife while speaking to the Southeastern Region of Colorado’s Parks and Wildlife Refuges (CPW). explained. When the victim’s wife shone it with her flashlight, she turned out to be a puma.

The mountain lion retreated about 20 feet from the couple and as the two continued screaming at the animal, it moved to the top of the hill and crouched down to look at them.

When the couple entered the rental home, they cleaned the wound, called an employee of CPW, the property’s owner, and alerted the police.

When officers arrived, they began searching for the puma, but found no tracks due to freezing temperatures and icy snow on the ground. A trap was then set up nearby in hopes of catching the animal.

Sean Shepard, Salida-based Regional Wildlife Manager, said, “We think the mountain lions likely saw the man’s head move in the darkness on the ground, but the people in the hot tub didn’t. I didn’t recognize it,” he said.

CPW said the mountain lion made four scratches on the top of the man’s head and near his right ear. The man refused medical help for injuries that authorities described as minor.

According to Shepard, the couple did the right thing by making noise and shining a light on the mountain lion. “The victim suffered minor injuries, but we take this incident very seriously. We have warned our neighbors and posted signs warning of lion activity. continue to follow.”

According to CPW, Saturday’s incident is the first reported mountain lion attack on humans in Colorado. After February 27, 2022.
