‘I never gave up on my faith’: Pensacola mother thanks to being arrested in 2015 son’s murder

Pensacola, Florida (WKRGMore) — A Pensacola mother thanks investigators who arrested a man accused of murdering her son in 2015.

Devin Kennedy’s daughter turned 9 on Monday.Another year without her father and another year Tammy Sims has to live without her only son.

“He didn’t deserve this,” said Sims. “Why? I don’t know why. Why would someone take him away from me and his daughter. His daughter was 15 months old when they took Devin.”

It’s been over seven years since Kennedy was found dead in a car crossing the state line on a dirt road off State Route 91 in Lillian.

“I’ve been depressed for seven years,” Sims said. “It wasn’t easy for me.”

Sims knows nothing will ease the pain, but he is grateful to the Escambia and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Departments for not giving up.

“It’s hard,” said Sims. “I have been on an emotional roller coaster. He was a good son.”

DeCody Herring was arrested late last week and charged with murder. He is in Baldwin County Jail. A judge set his bail at $150,000.

Belinda Beasley says she was Kennedy’s “bonus mother” and they relied on faith to get through this.

“We stand on the word of God,” said Beasley. “We trusted in the Lord and knew that nothing would go unnoticed. God sees and knows all.”

Sims hopes other families don’t lose their trust when they see this.

“I want to tell other mothers here not to give up,” Sims said. “Trust God’s timing. He’s on time. He did it for me. He will do it for you too.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating and it’s possible there will be more arrests in the case.
