How to upgrade iPhone software

Apple publishes major software updates at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) each year. Throughout the year, we continue to sporadically release small updates and fixes for iPhone users. Major annual iOS updates often include UI enhancements, new features, and numerous bug fixes. iPhone users are advised to keep their software up-to-date so as not to compromise their privacy and security. Apple typically sends notifications when updates are released on all compatible iPhone handsets, but users can also manually review and download updates.

How to upgrade iPhone software

There are multiple ways to upgrade your iPhone software. The easiest way is to set it to automatic so that the device updates automatically at night while charging. However, if you want to be responsible for the download pattern, we’ve covered two ways you can upgrade. One is wireless via the iPhone and the other is using a Mac computer. Before we start explaining the process, it is important to back up your data.

Update iPhone wirelessly

  1. Connect your iPhone to the charger. Make sure your Wi-Fi connection is strong and protected. Please note that this requires Wi-Fi and cannot be done with a mobile data connection.

  2. On your iPhone, go to the following location: Settings> General> Software Update.

  3. If new updates are available, you’ll find more information about iOS updates and their change logs.Click when you are satisfied Download and install option. The download will start. The speed depends on the speed of your internet connection.

  4. When the download is complete, tap. Install now..[後で]You can also tap to select Install tonight Or I will notify you later. When you tap Install tonightJust plug your device into a power source before going to bed. The device will be updated automatically at night.

  5. iPhone may require a passcode / password / fingerprint before starting the installation process. Enter the required information to start the installation process.

  6. When the installation process is complete, your iPhone will restart.

  7. If you’re running iOS 12 or later, your iPhone can also automatically update at night while charging. To enable automatic updates Settings> General> Software Updates> Customize Automatic Updates, Then turn on Install the iOS update. Even after you turn this on, some updates may still need to be installed manually.

Update iPhone using computer

If the wireless method doesn’t work, you can try the update using your computer. Wi-Fi or Ethernet network is required before updating.

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer via the charging cable. On Macs with macOS Catalina 10.15 finder. On Macs or PCs running macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier iTunes..

  2. When the phone loads, click Check for updates under General or settings..

  3. Then click Download and update..

  4. Enter your passcode when prompted. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the rest of the process.
