How to access Google Meet from Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides

In April 2022, Google added the following features: Join the call From within Google Docs, Sheets, Slides. When using Chrome on your computer, select the Google Meet icon in the upper right corner of the document to join or start a Meet session. When you start a session this way, Meet launches in the side panel on the right side of the document.

You can think of this feature as a document-first video conference in one tab. One tab because you only need one Chrome browser tab to manage or deploy both documents and Meet sessions, not two tabs (for Meet and for Docs, Sheets, or Slides files). It’s also a document-first video conference because the documents occupy most of the viewing space and the Meet is placed next to it.

As always, choose whether to share Google Docs, spreadsheets, and slide files. If private, use the document as needed. Trust the document for reference, take notes, and edit as needed. When shared, collaborators may view, comment, or edit the document as Meet participants discuss the issue.

In addition, whenever you have a Google Meet session active, open a Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides file and select the Meet icon in your document.[ここに電話をかける]You can select. This allows you to move from a standard Google Meet session (such as one with a focus on video) to a session that displays both documents and active Meet sessions in one tab.

The following steps describe how to use Google Meet with Google Docs, Spreadsheets, and Slides in Chrome on your computer.

Join or start a meeting from Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Slides

The Google Meet icon appears in the upper right corner of Google Docs, Spreadsheets, and Slides on the web, as follows: Figure A.. If you have a new document open, and you haven’t joined a Google Meet session yet, select that document to see three options.

First, you’ll see upcoming Google Calendar events, including Google Meet links. When you select a meeting from the list, the system previews the video from your webcam,[通話に参加する]or[このタブを表示する]Provides options.

or,[新しい会議を開始]Select to start a new Google Meet session. Sessions start in the side panel with a conference link (near the center of the panel) and various session settings and controls (at the bottom of the panel). Copy the link and share it with others in Google Chat, Gmail, or Google Chat Space.

The third option[会議コードを使用]Enter your Google Meet session code using. For example, if you have an existing Google Meet session active in a conference room and you want to join a session that wasn’t initially invited, you can do this.

How to share a link or view this tab from a Google Meet session in the side panel

When you activate a Google Meet session in the side panel, there are at least two ways to allow meeting participants access to open Google Docs, Spreadsheets, or slide files. Share the link or view this tab.

To collaborate on documents[リンクを共有]If you select, the system will generate an in-session message “Let’s work together with this document”, followed by a link to Google Docs, Spreadsheets, or slides. Figure B.. Select the send icon to share your message with meeting participants. You may need to adjust your document sharing settings to make it accessible to participants. If you want to start Meet from within the document[リンクの共有]Select (bottom left of document) to place a link to the document in the session chat. Apart from this, you may need to adjust your sharing settings (marked in the upper right). or,[現在]Select the icon (rectangular up arrow marked at the bottom right).

How to move a Meet session between three display options

You can move your Meet session to three different display configurations. First, Google Meet in the side panel highlights the document while displaying video, chat, and Meet controls. You can then use the image options in your document to minimize Meet to a small video window overlay. (Hover the cursor over the video image and select it to dock the video back to the side panel.) Third, the standard option is to display Meet across tabs without the Meet experience in the side panel. Return to the session. You can navigate to any of these display options during the meeting.

In the upper right corner of the Google Meet side panel, you’ll see two options as icons: Figure C.. An icon with an arrow pointing to the corner gives you the option to move the Meet session to another tab. This is useful if you don’t need to browse the documentation and need a standard Google Meet experience. Another icon is a small box inside a large box that removes Google Meet from the side panel and places the video as a document overlay.

The third option isn’t always obvious, but it’s very useful. If you have any Google Meet session active in Chrome, open the Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides item in a separate tab and select the Google Meet icon in the upper right (that is, the same as starting a Meet session). .. In modern meetings, the ability to add a video conference to a document is just as important as the ability to print if the meeting material was primarily paper. We want Google to incorporate video conferencing capabilities adjacent to documents into all Workspace apps, including Jamboard, Google Drawing, Google Forms, and Google Sites.
