Mobile, Alabama (WKRG) — After serving the community for over a decade, the Hispanic Heritage Business Association has decided to host the first ever Mobile Latin Fest.
This event is held to commemorate Hispanic Cultural Heritage Month.
Members of the organization were attending the meeting on Thursday as they organized the festival.
Leida Javier-Ferrell, Chairman of the Hispanic Heritage Business Association, said the celebration will take place at the next Art Walk. Festivals are filled with games, dance, events and food as a way to integrate the Hispanic community into mobile.
“We … have Hispanic roots that we want to share,” said Javier Ferrell.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson also attended the planning event. Stimpson said he was excited about the Hispanic community’s efforts to integrate their culture into the city.
“To see you come along with a common idea in the idea of explaining to our bigger ones
The community is doing what you are doing, what mobile is doing for you, and what we can do for you, “Stimpson said.
Nailim Sanchez of the Hispanic Heritage Business Association said hosting such an event was special and symbolic to the Hispanic community.
“We really want to emphasize our community because we believe it’s really important to you
“People who know we are here and that we are actually contributing to the community,” Sanchez said.
Javier-Ferrell said additional funding from the event will be used for scholarships for Hispanic students.
The Mobile Latin Fest will take place on October 8th from 5pm to 9pm at Cathedral Square in downtown Mobile. There is also a domino competition. If you are interested in attending, please come between 3pm and 5pm before the event.
