Gov. Kay Ivey announces next pay hike for teachers

Alabama (WHNT) – On Friday, Gov. Kay Ivey announced a further increase in teacher salaries. This will result in a 15% increase in her total salary during her governorship.
Former teacher Gov. Ivey said, “Education of my students is my number one priority, and teachers are vital to their future success. That’s why I’m proud to give teachers in Alabama another pay raise.” I will.”
according to her press releaseIvy’s goal of having the highest starting salaries for all Alabama teachers by the end of her term in the Southeast aligns directly with her efforts to recruit, retain, and prepare tomorrow’s teachers.
“Each year since I became governor, I have proposed a salary increase for educators. Thanks to working with Congress, Alabama has increased teachers’ base salaries by about $6,000 during that time.” As I said, my goal is to have the highest starting salary for every teacher in Alabama by the end of my term in the Southeast,” Governor Ivey added.
“Each of us has a teacher who made a difference in our lives. I am proud to be able to do it.”
This announcement will follow on June 1st. signing the national budgetwhich includes the Education Trust Fund and its supplements.
