Google is strengthening Generation AI The search tool features help you make sense of the complex information found on the web.
in Blog post published on Tuesdaythe search giant highlighted three new features that are either already available or coming soon. Search generation experience, or SGE. SGE, now available as a Google Labs experiment, brings AI to the company’s traditional search engine to provide overviews, sources, and follow-up questions related to the topic.
First on the list is how to see the definition of a word in the search summary. When you search for information on the web, your results may contain words or terms that you don’t fully understand or that you want to explore further.
In this regard, SGE will soon provide AI-generated definitions for terms related to science, history, economics, and other fields. After the update goes live, hovering over a specific word in the synopsis will allow you to see the definition of that word and view related images for that word.
Next is a feature called “SGE while browsing”. Doing a search on a particular topic can result in a large number of long, complicated web pages and articles that are difficult to digest. To help you understand them, this new feature provides an AI-generated list of key points in supported articles. Links are also available to take you to specific locations within the article that relate to the information you are looking for. Additionally, the Explore section generates questions and articles answer them with links to related sections.
To avoid conflicts with publishers, Google set SGE while browsing to only work with articles freely available on the web. In other words, it does not provide access to paywall-protected articles. Publishers can designate certain articles as free or paywalled so that only certain content is included in this type of search.
Browsing SGE is now available for Google apps for iOS and Android, and will be available for Chrome on desktop in the next few days.
Here are some new features for programmers: To help people learn more about coding, SGE has added new ways to understand and debug the generated code. This latest update color-codes and syntax-highlights certain strings of code that appear in AI-generated summaries. The purpose is to help programmers find and identify elements such as keywords, comments, and strings more easily.
To take advantage of the new functionality, you must: Sign up for Google Labs if you haven’t already. Once logged in, make sure you’re using the latest version of Chrome and proceed to the next page. If you’re ready for SGE while browsing in Chrome, you can also turn the feature on from here.
As Google continues to advance and experiment with SGE, how will this new type of search impact the way people find and consume information?

“This could lead to a shift towards consuming condensed information,” Hernandez added. “Additionally, the conversational aspect of SGE encourages users to ask more follow-up questions, retain information better, and participate in longer search sessions.” provide, but content quality and relevance are still important.
