Firefighter killed in Birmingham shooting

Birmingham, Alabama (wiatt) — A Birmingham firefighter was shot dead at a fire station last week.

Firefighter Jordan Melton died Monday night after two firefighters were shot dead inside No. 9 Fire Station on Block 1200 North 27th Street at around 8:30 am, according to the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Authority.

Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond said the firefighters had just changed shifts and likely had the back door open as it is normally open to the public. The culprit is still on the run. Thurmond has reason to believe that the shooting was not random, but rather a targeted attack.
