FHP: 1 Child Killed in Interstate 10 Collision

5:51pm Update: Officers attempted to stop a vehicle heading east on Interstate 10 near the 62-mile mark, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
Authorities said the vehicle was driving recklessly, and when officers tried to stop it, the vehicle entered the median and hit a trailer-trailer that was traveling west on Interstate 10. They continued their reckless escape until they collided.
Three passengers remained in the car, and one child was confirmed dead at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing, but no further information has been provided at this time.

Walton County, Florida (WMBB) — Westbound traffic on Interstate 10 was cut off Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
“The Walton County Florida Sheriff’s Department and the Walton County Fire and Rescue Service are standing at the site of a rollover traffic accident near Mile 86 on Interstate 10,” the WCSO said in a news release. “All westbound lanes are currently closed. Please avoid the area and use an alternative route.
He added that westbound traffic was diverted by the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office at Mile 96 to Highway 90 in Ponce de Leon. The City Sheriff’s Office of the Defuniak Springs Police Department is diverting eastbound traffic from Interstate 10 to Highway 90 at his 85 mile point in Defniak Springs.
