Facebook Messenger adds a custom QR code for Facebook Pay transactions

Facebook makes it easy for you to: remit payment In messenger. The app now supports Venmo-like QR codes and personalized links for personal payments via Facebook Pay. With this update, users will be able to access their QR code and links in their messenger settings to request payment. Facebook states that this feature works even if you are not yet a Facebook friend. This should make it easier to send or request payments to strangers.

This may not seem like the best use case, but it’s especially useful for those who buy and sell on the Facebook Marketplace. In the Facebook marketplace, transactions are often initiated in Messenger. This may give buyers and sellers more incentives to use Facebook Pay instead of looking at Venmo or another third-party app to complete the payment. This feature is currently only available in the United States, but the company says additional updates will be available “soon.”

Messenger also unveiled several other new features, including a new “quick reply” bar for responding to photos and videos, and a new chat theme for customizing your inbox.
