Bitcoin 2021 participants report Covid’s case after returning from Miami

Some of the 12,000 participants who flew to Miami for the biggest Bitcoin event in history last weekend began to test positive for the new coronavirus.

Bitcoin 2021 has attracted crypto enthusiasts from around the world to the Mana Winwood Convention Center in Miami’s arts and entertainment district. For three days, conference attendees crammed into a crowded auditorium and happily hugged each other. It was the first major conference since the pandemic began, and many attendees were with colleagues exchanging news and updates. He said he was relieved to come out.

There was no obligation to mask and there was no proof of vaccination requirements to attend. The new coronavirus was just a topic in the context of how excited everyone was about arriving on the other side of the pandemic.

That, of course, until some conference attendees reported on Twitter that they tested positive for the new coronavirus.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I attended the show after receiving two Moderna vaccines this spring. Vaccination does not guarantee 100% immunity, but so far there are no symptoms. Much of the conversation with Uber and Lyft drivers began with mutual discussions about being vaccinated.

It is not yet known if the meeting will eventually be billed as a Superspreader event.

It is unclear how many people were affected and whether the city of Miami had an emergency response plan in preparation for this type of outcome. The mayor’s office and the organizers of the conference did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

on Tuesday, Florida said As vaccinations increase, daily Covid cases and deaths are no longer reported and begin to move to the “next stage” of the pandemic. According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Florida has reported an average of 8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants over the past week, a pandemic of 84 per 100,000. It’s far below.
