Austal USA receives order for three submarines for $10.6 million

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Austal USA has been awarded a $10.6 million contract to manufacture and outfit three electronic deck modules for the Virginia-class submarine program, according to an Austal USA release.

Construction is expected to begin this fall and the modules will be delivered “by mid-2025,” according to the release.

The construction of the three modules is the result of a strategic partnership between Austal USA and General Dynamics Electric Boat to “adopt a strategic sourcing approach to expand the production capacity of the subsea industrial base.” This partnership and construction is supported by the U.S. Navy.

“This order is a great way for Electric Boat and the Navy to rely on Austal’s talented workforce to build a stable, high-quality module on time and on budget,” said Dave Groden, Austal vice president of U.S. new construction programs. “It shows confidence in keeping the production line running.” “We are excited to play a key role in the undersea industrial base and participate in a program critical to our national security.”
