Auburn, Alabama Fans Provide ‘Home’ Environment for Round 1 of NCAA Tournament
Birmingham, Alabama (WKRGMore) — Basketball fans in Alabama and Auburn didn’t have to travel far to cheer on the Crimson Tide and Tigers in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament. Both teams were given ‘home court’ advantage at Legacy Arena in Birmingham.
No.1 Alabama 96-75 victory over Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Thursday afternoon and 9th seed Auburn beat Iowa 83-75 Thursday night.
WKRG’s Simone Eli and Gerhard Mathangani attended ‘205’ and covered both games in full, including halftime reports and post-match interviews.
The WKRG News 5 Sports team caught up with the Alabama and Auburn loyalists throughout the afternoon.
“Oh yeah, it looked good tonight,” an Auburn fan told WKRG. I like the odds of
University of Alabama freshman star Brandon Miller was scoreless in the win against the Islanders. Considering Alabama won by 21 points behind him, Crimson his Tide fans feel good.
“It shows the depth of the team,” an Alabama fan told WKRG. “It shows they got together and still play as a whole.”
The Legacy Arena was filled with Alabama Crimson and Auburn Orange for the Tigers and Hawkeyes matchups, and WKRG asked a few fans about their home court advantage.
“It’s a big time,” said one group of Auburn fans. “It’s huge. Auburn fans show up all the time. Our loudness and their silence [Iowa] I was hard of hearing. ”
“It’s very exciting,” said another Auburn fan. “Typical Auburn basketball. If it wasn’t for a heart attack, Auburn he’s not a game. We had a great time. They played really well and we’re ready for the second round.” I wish I could come back.”
No. 1 Alabama will face No. 8 Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. No. 9 Auburn will face the winner of No. 1 Houston/No. 1. 16 Saturday is also Northern Kentucky.
Neither game has a set tip-off time. Both matches will take place at Legacy his arena in Birmingham.
