According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is looking forward to revamping its Watch lineup next year with a rugged version and an updated Watch SE.
Released last September, the Watch SE is the only mid-level option for anyone who needs an Apple Watch, lacking new features such as ECG, always-on display, and blood oxygen sensor. As a standard, Apple rarely updates SE models – there was a four-year wait iPhone SE 2 – So it’s interesting to see the second generation Watch SE right away.
The newsletter written by Gurman doesn’t mention the Watch SE upgrade, but we believe the 2022 model will have slightly different designs and higher-end features, especially in the health and fitness category. There is no mistake.
The next big part of the newsletter is the Rugged Apple Watch. According to Garman, this new Apple Watch features a “rugged” design for sports athletes, and could feature a more durable, scratch-resistant design.
A rugged variation of the Apple Watch can help draw in the same crowd that normally depends on things like Garmin and Coros. That’s why it’s not hard to imagine that this particular Apple Watch has the ability to operate below freezing and has a more robust chassis.
Currently, the company is partnering with Nike for something special Apple Watch Series 7 SE models with a dedicated watch face and watch band, but these models have the same design and durability as standard options.
We’ll know over time whether German’s predictions were successful, but in the meantime, we’ve kept an eye on Trusted Reviews as we’ll see a bit of information about the Apple Watch 8.
