99% of businesses face challenges with multiple cloud platforms

Nearly all decision makers (99%) in business organizations in the UK and Ireland face a range of challenges arising from storing data in multiple clouds.
These include different answers to the same question depending on which cloud the data resides in, costly and slow insights, and poor accuracy.
These findings were unveiled as part of a report by analytics and AI specialist SAS titled “Hope from Every Cloud.” Explore the challenges companies face when relying on multiple public and private cloud platforms to host their business data and applications. Over 200 key decision makers in the data, analytics and cloud services space in the UK and Ireland, each from companies with over 3,000 employees, participated in the survey.
Importantly, organizations operate on average three private clouds, and nearly half (42%) also rely on at least two public cloud providers for hosting business applications, analytics and business-critical data That’s it.
Decision makers give multiple reasons why their businesses run on multiple clouds. This includes concerns about one cloud his vendor dependency, compliance and regulatory requirements, and acquisition strategies that create fragmented systems. However, with the proliferation of the cloud, the majority of organizations face many significant operational challenges in extracting insights from their data.
These include multiple answers to the same question depending on which cloud the data resides in (64%), high cost (64%), slow time to insight (60%), and low accuracy. including Low (48%). And while 8 in 10 companies admit to needing regular snapshots of data into a common pool, 70% use different analytics platforms in each cloud, I have to consolidate the answers, which can be very time consuming.
Paul Jones, Head of Technology, SAS UK & Ireland, said the findings raise some tough questions for decision makers who rely on cloud environments to deliver critical insights in a timely manner. says that He said:
“The biggest challenge facing enterprises due to the pervasiveness of the cloud is clear. Often, the inability to provide a single version of the truth calls into question how effective insights are in the first place. Nearly two-thirds of respondents said that running multiple clouds means waiting longer for insights and answers from data, and nearly half say those insights are inaccurate Despite many companies making significant investments in cloud infrastructure, they are not getting the benefits they need and rely on inaccurate analytical insights to make business decisions. What is going on is of great concern.
“Only 30% of those who participated in our survey said their cloud and analytics environment was set up to meet the types of problems they needed to solve. For organizations with compliance and regulatory requirements, this means that the proliferation of cloud and the challenges it poses can pose a real dilemma if infrastructure is not redesigned to meet business needs.
“The solution to these challenges is to have a single analytics platform like SAS Viya that can span multiple different cloud environments, including data held on-premises, minimizing cloud costs and costs. It’s about generating fast analytical insights from that data in a way that keeps it from providing a single version of the truth.”
The study was commissioned by SAS and conducted by Coleman Parkes from December 2022 to January 2023. The research was conducted in accordance with the standards of the Market Research Institute. Respondents were data, analytics and cloud services decision makers based in the UK and Ireland. There were a total of 200 respondents, each of whom worked for a company with 3,000 or more employees.
