54-year-old man dies while crossing Highway 98 in Fort Walton Beach

Fort Walton Beach, Florida (WKRGMore) — The Fort Walton Beach Police Department closed a portion of Highway 98 near Memorial Parkway Thursday afternoon after a fatal car crash occurred.

Police Chief Robert Bage said the accident occurred in the westbound lane at 2:47 p.m.

A white Dodge Ram pickup truck with a landscape trailer was driving west on US Highway 98, according to a press release. A Dodge Ram pickup truck collided with a pedestrian.

The truck driver stayed at the scene and a pedestrian rescue was ordered, but the man was not saved.

The crash is still under investigation. According to the map, there is no pedestrian crossing where the collision occurred.

Next of kin will be notified before the victim’s name is released. The driver has been identified as Jonathan Watson.
